WARRIORS CUP 7 (WITH RESULTS)

Come out and support up and coming FIVE POINTS ACADEMY fighters Sergio Aguirre, Seth Webster, Chris White and River Xin and the 7th installment of the Weapons 9 Warriors Cup Series. Our friends at Weapons 9 Gym in New Brunswick always put on a well-matched, well-organized show. Come enjoy it!
RESULTS: Another well-run, exciting show from our good friends at Weapons 9 Gym.
In his debut performance, River Xin put on an impressive display of muay thai technique. Looking remarkably poised and confident for a novice fighter, River dominated the tough and game Sam Kim of Kru Training Camp en route to a unanimous decision.
Chris White faced Rubin Lopez of our neighboring gym The Wat in a match that rested on who could establish their game. Chris worked well from outside, landing solid hard punches, while Rubin's game was to close and work knees in the clinch. In the end, Rubin imposed his plan and pulled out the decision.
In the Co-Main Event, Seth Webster squared off against Brandon Haze if TS-MMA. Fischeti came looking to land hard boxing combinations. An excellent strategy unless -- as everyone who spars with Seth knows -- you are facing The Hammer. Always relaxed and weathering a first round storm of punches, Seth landed hard low kicks and his trademark right-hand sledgehammer en route to a split decision that went to the final bell and had the crowd in a frenzy.
Sergion Aguirre faced Sam Hosmer of The Wat in the main event of the night. Just a few weeks after his 48th (no, that is not a typo) birthday, Sergio entered the ring at an extremely fit 165 pounds. His training showed as he pushed the pace from the first bell, landing hard punch/kick combinations and shutting down and visibly tiring his taller, younger opponent in the clinch. Culminating in an extremely close split decision that was highly unpopular with the crowd , one has to be impressed with Sergio's skill, heart and dedication to the sport.
Thanks again to Chris Tran and Derrick Riddick of Weapons 9 Gym for putting on these great events at the historic New Brunswick Boxing Gym.
